Hebrews 3 — Testing, Faith & Rest
1. The Wilderness Was a Test of Trust
God rescued Israel, opened the Red Sea, and provided for them.
Just three days later, they were already questioning Him.
God showed them His faithfulness before testing their faith.
The test isn't whether God is faithful. It's whether we trust Him.
2. Trust God's Timing
God repeatedly provided when Israel thought there was no way forward.
God isn't worried about coming through at the last second.
We struggle with the timing; God doesn't.
He continually gave Israel reminders of His faithfulness.
Remembering what God has done gives us faith for what we're facing now.
3. Don't Let the Giants Become Bigger Than God
After seeing God's provision for about 16 months, Israel sent 12 spies into the Promised Land.
Ten saw the giants and focused on what they couldn't do.
Joshua and Caleb saw the same giants but believed God was greater.
Israel chose unbelief, and a journey that should have taken roughly 16 months became 40 years.
The problem wasn't the giants. It was forgetting who God was.
4. Keep Trusting—Even at the End
Moses eventually faced his own moment of unbelief.
God told him to speak to the rock, but Moses struck it instead.
Even after decades of following God, Moses chose to do it his own way.
Past faithfulness doesn't mean we can stop trusting God today.
5. The Promised Land Was About Rest
The Promised Land wasn't just about abundance. It represented rest.
Rest means trusting God instead of constantly trying to control the outcome.
Israel missed that rest because of unbelief and disobedience.
God's goal isn't simply to give us a better life. It's to teach us dependence on Him.
6. Jesus Is Our Example
Jesus perfectly trusted and depended on the Father.
He lived by doing and saying what the Father wanted.
True rest is living present with God and trusting Him with everything.
Faith is choosing to trust God when we can't see the outcome.
Remember
God prepares us before the test.
Remember what He has already done.
Don't focus only on the size of the giant; focus on the greatness of God.
Don't talk fear. Talk faith.
Big Idea
Stop trying to become a better version of yourself and become a more accurate reflection of Jesus.
The goal isn't to become strong enough to handle every giant.
It's to trust the God who is bigger than every giant.
Faith is choosing God over what I see.
Rest is trusting Him with what I can't control.
