Hebrews 1–2 — The Foundation of Hebrews
Who Jesus Was on Earth
The first two chapters establish who Jesus is and lay the foundation for the entire book.
Hebrews emphasizes that Jesus, while on earth, was fully human.
He experienced:
Flesh and blood
Suffering
Temptation
Death
Human weakness
“He had to be made like them, fully human in every way…” — Hebrews 2:17
Why Does Jesus’ Humanity Matter?
If we see Jesus as someone who was simply God doing impossible things, we can easily make excuses for why we can't follow His example.
Hebrews says Jesus experienced humanity from the inside.
Because He suffered and was tempted, He understands what we are going through.
He became a merciful and faithful High Priest who can help us in our struggles.
Jesus Is Our Example
Hebrews is ultimately a book about faith.
Jesus is the example the rest of the book builds on.
His life shows us what trusting and obeying God looks like.
Faith isn't just what we say we believe.
What we believe is revealed by how we live.
Big Idea
Jesus didn't just come to save us—He came to show us what a life completely surrendered to God looks like.
If Jesus faced humanity, suffering, temptation, and hardship and remained faithful, then we don't have to say, “I can't.”
We can say:
“He understands. He did it. And He can help me do it too.”
Faith is what I believe.
Faithfulness is what I walk out.
